Oval or broadly-oval cotyleans, variably coloured. Dorsal surface smooth, rarely papillae. Marginal tentacles of variable development, sometimes difficult to detect. Eyes at bases of tentacles or in two groups on the anterior margin of the body; cerebral eyes in two elongate clusters. Mouth in cerebral region and at the anterior end of the bell-shaped pharynx; greater part of the intestinal trunk posterior to the pharynx. Male genital pore behind the mouth or rarely united with it. Male copulatory complex beneath or behind the pharynx, consisting of muscular seminal vesicle, independent prostatic organ, and penis-papilla with a stylet in the penis-pocket. Female copulatory complex between male pore and ventral sucker; vagina short and simple; 'shell'-chamber widened, dorso-ventrally compressed; no Lang's vesicle; uterine canals, with lateral vesicles, run posteriorly from vagina (except in Stylostomum ).
